Cannonau Classico 'Monte Tundu' Berritta Dorgali 2020

The Cannonau Classico 'Monte Tundu' from the Berritta Dorgali winery is a red wine of great intensity and character, a fine representation of Cannonau, Sardinia's princely grape variety. The nose expresses notes of cherry, berry jam and floral scents of rose and violet, softened by spicy hints due to the long aging in wood. The palate is warm and enveloping, with medium tannins and a long, fresh finish, thanks to a pleasant saline note

CANNONAU CLASSICO 'MONTE TUNDU' BERRITTA DORGALI 2020 DESCRIPTION

The Cannonau di Sardegna Classico 'Monte Tundu' is one of the most representative and territorial wines from the Berritta winery in Dorgali. This winery's main grape variety is Cannonau, which alone accounts for 75 per cent of the entire vineyard area at the estate's disposal. The founder and helmsman of the winery is Antonio Berritta, a vine grower with strong ties to the territory of the Oddoene Valley, and the appellation of this label derives from the name of the mountain of the same name that overlooks the valley.

'Monte Tundu' Cannonau di Sardegna Classico Berritta Dorgali is an expression of pure Cannonau from a selection of the estate's oldest vineyards. The vines, around 45 years old, are organically certified and are rooted in granite-drained soils. When the grapes have reached the ideal stage of ripeness, they are harvested by hand into crates, followed by destemming and mashing of the grapes in stainless steel tanks, where alcoholic fermentation takes place spontaneously accompanied by 25-30 days of maceration on the skins, during which daily punching-down takes place. Malolactic fermentation also occurs spontaneously, and the subsequent ageing phase takes place for 8 months in steel, 12 to 18 months in large oak casks and a further 6 months in the bottle.

Berritta Dorgali Cannonau di Sardegna Classico 'Monte Tundu' has an intense ruby red colour. Notes of ripe cherries, jammy wild berries, rose petals, and violets follow one another on the nose, enhanced by subtle aromas of sweet spices due to the long passage in wood. The enveloping warmth on the palate is well supported by the pleasant, saline vein and the integrated tannic texture that preludes the distinctly fruity and spicy finish.
