CANNONAU 'MUSTAZZO' SELLA & MOSCA 2020 DESCRIPTION

Sella & Mosca's Cannonau 'Mustazzo' was born on our beautiful Sardinian island, near Alghero. The history of the winery began more than a century ago with engineer Sella and lawyer Mosca, originally from Piedmont, but in love with Sardinia, where they discovered a marvellous territory for growing vines. In 1899, the 15 hectares of land purchased were reclaimed and the first vineyards were planted with native vines to give new prestige to this land. Today, the estate ranks as one of the largest in Europe, with surrounding land reaching 540 hectares, worked and cared for with the aim of enhancing and valorising an area where nature and history meet and merge. The work was further increased and improved with the arrival of Antonio Marras, which led to the production of the first Metodo Classico from Torbato grapes.

Sella & Mosca's Cannonau 'Mustazzo' vineyards are composed of vines with an average age of about 55 years. The altitude of the vineyards is about 600 metres above sea level, where there are significant temperature excursions that guarantee full ripening of the grapes and enhance the fruit and tannic component. The climate is Mediterranean with hot, dry summers and mild winters, thanks to the influence of sea breezes. In the vineyard, human intervention is reduced to a minimum, without any use of pesticides or synthetic chemicals, with the aim of respecting biodiversity and the ecosystem surrounding the vineyards. Once the harvest is complete, destemming with extra-soft crushing takes place in the cellar; this is followed by maceration with delastage to facilitate the extraction of soluble substances. Maturation in wood and cement.

To the eye, Sella & Mosca's Cannonau 'Mustazzo' is ruby red with brilliant reflections. The bouquet of aromas is reminiscent of fruity notes of blackberry, raspberry, undergrowth in combination with mineral and spicy hints; in the mouth it is dynamic, enveloping and pleasantly tannic with freshness and dynamism on the finish for a curious drink. In pairing it is recommended with grilled or stewed red meat, first courses with important sauces and mature cow's milk cheeses. Perfect to accompany the table on family Sundays to enjoy an authentic product that is the fruit of centuries of experience.
