CAREMA 'ETICHETTA NERA' FERRANDO 2019 DESCRIPTION

Ferrando's Carema "Etichetta Nera" is a Canavese red made from pure Nebbiolo grapes. It is an elegant and intense wine, one of the best expressions of Alto Piemonte, aged for 24 months in barriques. Carema has always been famous for the quality of its Nebbiolo, a chalice with a fresher and more austere character than the better-known interpretations from the Langhe, but with great charm and refined finesse.

Ferrando Carema "Etichetta Nera" is produced in one of the areas of northern Italy that holds a vineyard landscape of unique scenic beauty. Carema is located on the northwestern border of Piedmont, right at the mouth of the Aosta Valley. The area is made up of moraine hills, a reminder of an ancient glacier that rise to the mountain ranges. The soils are rich in pebbles and gravel, with a very heterogeneous presence of minerals. The vineyards are cultivated on terraces placed on stone walls and by pillars that support the pergolas on which the vines climb. An architecture of rare beauty, which constitutes an invaluable heritage of the area. The stones of the walls and pillars store heat during the day and return it at night, mitigating the harsh mountain temperatures. In this way, the Nebbiolo is able to ripen, giving grapes of great finesse and freshness. At the end of the harvest, fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled steel tanks, with maceration on the skins for about 10 days. The wine matures for 24 months in barriques and completes ageing with at least 12 months in bottles before release for sale.

Carema "Etichetta Nera" from the Ferrando winery is a splendid interpretation of mountain Nebbiolo, fresh, austere and powerful, all played on the delicate notes of elegance. The colour is quite intense, garnet red, and the nose expresses scents of violets, and spice aromas on a background of berries, delicately framed by notes of rhubarb, cinchona and medicinal herbs. The sip is deep and warm, dynamic and flowing, with a finish of great freshness and extraordinary finesse.
