Quartomoro's Carignano 'CRG' is a refined and authentic wine from the sands of Calasetta. The winery is famous for the cultivation of very old free-range vines, capable of yielding concentrated wines, produced with minimal intervention and great care. The nose is complex, with intense, dark notes of red fruits and spices, with a marine and intriguingly balsamic finish. The palate is warm, soft and crisp, a savoury expression of Sardinian terroir. Ideal with spit-roasted meats and grilled tuna belly
Carignano 'CRG' by Quartomoro is a structured, Mediterranean expression of the Carignano grape variety. The Quartomoro winery represents the place of experimentation of oenologist Piero Cella, who lives and interprets Sardinian oenology under this project. Specifically, the Carignano 'CRG' is part of the 'Memorie di Vite' selection, a collection aimed at celebrating some of Sardinia's most identifiable vines, including the Carignano, which on the island of Sant'Antioco yields wines of great depth.
Quartomoro 'CRG' Carignano is made solely from grapes of the black berry variety of the same name, bred on a free-foot trellised system. In particular, the vines grow on sandy soils in the area of Calasetta, located on the island of Sant'Antioco, where the grapes enjoy the characteristic breezy Mediterranean climate. Harvesting is carried out by hand in crates and is followed by spontaneous alcoholic fermentation at a temperature not exceeding 30 °C, accompanied by 7 days of maceration on the skins with wetting of the cap. The subsequent maturation phase, which lasts 6 months, takes place in a combination of stainless steel tanks and barriques of at least 4 passages, so as to avoid excessive wood influence. This is followed by a further rest period of 6 months in the bottle before final release.
On visual inspection, the 'CRG' Carignano shows a deep ruby red colour tending towards garnet. The intense aromatic profile is delineated by fruity sensations of cherry and plum and spicy and roasted notes reminiscent of cocoa, all complemented by iodised mineral nuances and balsamic hints of eucalyptus on the finish. On the palate it is warm and structured but at the same time surprisingly fine, with a good freshness that supports the decisive savouriness and intense tannin.
