CARMIGNANO 'IL SASSO' PIAGGIA 2021 DESCRIPTION

Carmignano "Il Sasso" comes from a selection of international grape varieties blended with Sangiovese, grown in the vineyard of the same name located in Santa Cristina, Mezzana, in one of the most vocated areas of the entire appellation. A territorial wine, organoleptically rich, which combines freshness and elegance with an excellently crafted sip, capable of expressing itself firmly in the future as well. A label in which the tradition of terroir is mixed with a modern reading of wine-making typical of the Piaggia winery's approach.

Piaggia's "Il Sasso" is a Carmignano that originates from a blend driven by Sangiovese, which is present in the final blend at 70 percent, joined by percentages of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. Vines of this variety are grown at an elevation of about 250 meters above sea level, with a southwest exposure. The terroir is characterized by a subsoil composed mainly of clay and marl. The must ferments spontaneously thanks to the presence of indigenous yeasts, macerating for 18-20 days in contact with the marc. This is followed by ageing, where it rests for 15 months in small French wooden barrels; after bottling, a further 6 months of maturation follows.

The red wine Carmignano "Il Sasso "announces itself to the eye with a colour that recalls the ruby hue. The nose is dominated by a fruity sensation, especially cherry, enhanced by a more balsamic touch, which pops up on the finish. On the palate, it is full-bodied and swaddling on the palate, with an appealing, rich and satisfying sip, thanks in part to a pleasant fresh texture. A bottle that encapsulates all the charm of the Prato area and smells of Tuscany.
