CHAMPAGNE BRUT 'GRAND CORDON' MUMM DESCRIPTION

Mumm's Champagne Grand Cordon is a bastion of the champenoise tradition, famous throughout the world thanks to the historicity of its brand: in fact, this sparkling wine has been produced uninterruptedly since 1876 and its Maison has been a solid reality in the universe of French bubbles since 1827, the year of its foundation. The creation of this product can be attributed to Georges Hermann Mumm, who made a decision that would identify this now historic label for decades to come: he decorated the neck of the bottle with a red silk ribbon to pay homage to the Grand Cordon Rouge of the Legion of Honour, with which officers were decorated, thus making it a timeless icon in the history of Champagne.

Today, Champagne Mumm Grand Cordon is produced using the base wines from 77 different crus, scattered throughout the sub-zones of the region, with 45% Pinot Noir prevailing in the blend, followed by 30% Chardonnay and the remainder Pinot Meunier. The melange of the bases obtained from these three grapes is then bottled and left to ferment a second time in the bottle, according to the Champenoise method, maturing in the bottle for at least 30 months before undergoing degorgement and being put on the market.

The Grand Cordon Mumm Champagne manages to intrigue the senses even today, presenting itself in the glass with a straw-yellow colour with golden highlights, enhanced by a fine, persistent and brilliant perlage. On the nose, it expresses intriguing fruity notes reminiscent of white peaches, pineapple and fresh citrus fruits, framed by scents of toasted hazelnuts and mineral puffs, while on the palate it is creamy and balanced, with a citric and chalky freshness that brings to mind the soils of Champagne, the identifying mark of this iconic and timeless bottle.
