The Bergmannhof Chardonnay comes from vines that are over 30 years old and have their roots in the gravelly soils near the winery. The grapes ferment mainly in steel with a small part in oak tonneaux. A partial malolactic fermentation gives body and lactic hints that lend complexity to the wine's floral and fruity profile. On the palate it reveals aromaticity and intensity at the same time, with a structure that allows it to marry well with even light meat dishes
The Chardonnay from the family-run Bergmannhof estate represents a fresh and fragrant interpretation of this celebrated white grape variety of Burgundian origin. The Pichler family has been running the Bergmannhof estate since as far back as 1851, with each generation committed to passing on their passion for wine and their knowledge of the terroir. Documents record the activity of the Bergmannhof as far back as the 17th century, testifying to the historicity of the estate. Among the cornerstones of the Pichlers' agronomic and oenological philosophy are environmental sustainability and craftsmanship at every stage of the production process.vo.
Bergmannhof Chardonnay is made from pure Chardonnay grapes cultivated using sustainable practices in the area of San Paolo, a hamlet of the municipality of Appiano sulla Strada del Vino. The vines, which are up to 30 years old, are rooted in soils characterised by a high concentration of gravel, clay and limestone, and also have very stony sections. Harvesting is carried out by hand towards the end of August and is followed by soft pressing of the grapes. The must thus obtained is then vinified mainly in stainless steel tanks, with a small percentage processed in oak tonneaux, with partial malolactic fermentation. Still in stainless steel and partly in tonneaux, the wine matures for about 6 months on the fine lees.
The Sudtirol Chardonnay Bergmannhof has an intense straw-yellow colour. The nose is played on vivid aromas of jammy pear, lemon peel and jasmine. The progression on the palate is firm and full-bodied but at the same time very fresh, with a pleasant aromatic finish of good persistence. This is a South Tyrolean Chardonnay with a lively character, ideal with lightly matured cheeses or seafood cuisine.
