CHARDONNAY 'VIGNA SAN FRANCESCO' TENUTA REGALEALI - TASCA D'ALMERITA 2022 DESCRIPTION

Tasca d'Almerita's "Vigna San Francesco" Chardonnay is one of the top white wines offered by this splendid winery in Sicily. The winery's good fortune is to have at its disposal an unrepeatable terroir that is that of Regaleali. Even at the latitudes of the great Italian island, the Chardonnay grape knows how to express remarkable expressive qualities. Among the first realities to strongly believe in this international variety thanks to the work of Count Lucio Tasca d'Almerita, who decided to vine 1985 five hectares in the lower part of the San Francesco hill, at about 500 meters above sea level, deep, clayey, sandy and slightly calcareous soils and exposed to the South/West. Excellent soils capable of transmitting character and structure to the grapes from which the final wines are obtained, with an excellent combination of freshness and flavour.

Chardonnay "Vigna San Francesco" also owes its great complexity and elegance to the alcoholic fermentation carried out in 350-litre French oak barrels, Allier and Tronçais. Malolactic fermentation is not carried out, and the ageing of the wine always takes place in oak barrels of the same capacity, 70% first-passage and 30% second-passage, where it rests 8 months.

Tasca d'Almerita Chardonnay shows a golden yellow colour with greenish hues on the eye. On the nose, there is a complexity of aromas traceable to sensations of mango, papaya, passion fruit, candied citron, caramel, cinnamon and white rose. On the sip, it is very fresh and linear, with an enveloping vanilla sensation and savoury, almost brackish hints of absolute level, as well as a perfect execution by Tasca d'Almerita, one of the highest oenological expressions of the whole of Sicily.
