A wine to look forward to, to be stored in the cellar to give it a chance to express its unforgettable sip at its best
Château Haut-Brion is a special French wine, produced in the village of Pessac-Léognan near Bordeaux. This ranks among the five oldest Grands Crus in Bordeaux, boasting an invaluable historical heritage of some five centuries. It was founded in 1533 by Jean de Pontac and soon became an undisputed protagonist on the rich tables of the European monarchs of the time. In 1663, it was Samuel Pepys who launched it further onto the market, spreading the word that it was an extraordinary French wine that had never been encountered before. With the passage of time, the quality of this wine has remained undisputed and has been further enhanced, becoming the greatest wine in French and European wine history in 1959. Today, the idea has not changed and this product is still a champion.
The vineyard of Château Haut-Brion is located in the Pessac area and is considered a true flagship of the A.O.C. Pessac-Léognan. The soil is exceptional, composed in particular of multi-coloured 'graves' that give elegance and character to the final product; the climate is continental with hot, sunny summers and cold, often snowy winters; close to the harvest in September, there is rain that contributes to accelerating the ripening process of the grapes. After manual harvesting, alcoholic fermentation takes place in steel tanks in the cellar. It matures 18 months in barriques, most of them first-passage.
To the eye, Château Haut-Brion's Château Haut-Brion is an intense red-purple with brilliant reflections. The aromas are reminiscent of ripe red-fleshed fruit, berries such as ripe blackberry and spicy notes of tobacco and undergrowth; on the palate it is soft, intense and structured with soft tannins thanks to the passage in wood and a delicate and pleasant final persistence for a continuous and curious drinking experience. In pairing it is perfect with grilled and roasted red meat cuts, game and elaborate first courses; interesting with mature cow's and sheep's milk cheeses. A wine with exclusive flavours that accompanies unique and special occasions, confirming itself among the best in the world with well-deserved awards behind it.
