CHENIN 'HEREAFTER HERE' ALHEIT VINEYARDS 2022 DESCRIPTION

Alheit Vineyards' 'Hereafter Here' is a pure Chenin Blanc that stands out for its smooth and savoury character, an expression of vineyards in different parts of South Africa. For husband and wife Chris and Suzaan Alheit, the appellation 'Hereafter Here' expresses the concept of a moment that is to come in the place they love. This name is also meant to represent the passing of time, forming a sound similar to the expression 'year afteryear'. As for the territories from which the grapes used for 'Hereafter Here' come, these are harvested in the areas of Swartland, Piekenierskloof, Bottelary, Polkadraai, Paardeberg and Tygerberg.

Alheit Vineyards 'Hereafter Here' is a 100% Chenin Blanc from young and partly old bush-trained vines. Harvesting takes place in the early hours of the morning, accompanied by careful sorting directly in the vineyard. The bunches are then gently pressed whole and the must thus obtained is left to decant slightly, and then undergoes spontaneous alcoholic fermentation in old wooden barrels of different sizes. The slow fermentation process lasts for about 2 months and the mass is then left to mature in the same type of wine container for 12 months, spent on the fine lees. This is followed by a further 6 months' rest in stainless steel tanks, again on the fine lees, and the wine is finally bottled without undergoing any clarification.

The colour of Alheit Vineyards' Chenin Blanc 'Hereafter Here' is a beautiful golden yellow. The aromatic bouquet offers aromas of yellow-fleshed fruit and sweet herbs, supported by a pleasant mineral vein. On the palate it is soft, at times subtle, with a tasty savoury trail that is accompanied by a balancing freshness in an impressive finish.
