The Chianti Classico Gran Selezione "Vicoregio 36" is a Tuscan wine with a charged and intense personality, obtained from the selection of 36 different biotypes of Sangiovese and aged for 20 months in oak barrels. It expresses power and complexity: aromas of cherries, roots, spices and Mediterranean scrub and a structured and elegant taste, endowed with freshness and sapidity
The Chianti Classico Gran Selezione "Vicoregio 36" from Castello di Fonterutoli-Mazzei is a Tuscan wine of particular merit, the result of a long research work on the best clones of Sangiovese, with the desire to create a wine of great gustative complexity, able to present an unusual face and capable of summarizing its best qualities. It is made from the grapes of as many as 36 different clones. The long ageing in wood contributes even more to increase the depth and aromatic facet of the wine, which proposes, in addition to the classic varietal aromas of Sangiovese, spicy notes, of Mediterranean scrub, of noble woods, which flow into a rich and flowing sip, with extraordinary drinkability.
Chianti "Vicoregio 36" is among Tuscany's finest wine excellences. It is produced by a historic winery, the Mazzei family's Castello di Fonterutoli. The estate is located in the heart of the classic Chianti area and, since the 15th century, has represented the history of the wines of this territory. Such a wine could only be born in the context of ancient traditions and the desire to put to good use the experience of centuries in cultivating this noble red grape variety. This is a wine that goes beyond the classic schemes and is the modern way of making a vineyard by relying on the most common clones. The Mix 36 vineyard is a kind of catalogue of the best Sangiovese plants that could be found in the Chianti lands. A wine inspired by the natural biodiversity of the past, mediated by careful human work to select only the best vines.
Castello di Fonterutoli-Mazzei's "Vicoregio 36" Gran Selezione Classico Chianti is a great expression of pure Sangiovese, which saw the light after about 40 years of work to select the best clones of Sangiovese, up to the 36 planted in the vineyard. It is a research wine, the culmination of an ambitious project that aims to restore that ancient variety of biotypes that has always been present in the old vineyards. The grapes come from a vineyard cultivated at an altitude of over 300 metres on soils characterized by the presence of limestone and clay. At the end of the classic red vinification, the wine matures for 20 months in French oak tonneaux. In the goblet, it has an intense ruby red colour. On the nose, it expresses multifaceted aromas, with notes of cherry, morello cherry, red fruit, herbs, spicy hints, and memories of noble woods and leather. It has a good body and beautiful structure, supported by an important tannic texture, with a deep and complex centre of the mouth. The finish is very persistent, with a fresh closure and great flavour balance. It is a single varietal that has the intravarietal complexity of a blend, fascinating and unique!
