CHIANTI CLASSICO RISERVA BADIA A COLTIBUONO 2019 DESCRIPTION

Badia, a Coltibuono Chianti Classico Riserva, is a typical red wine in its richness of balsamic herbs and various spices. Badia a Coltibuono represents a historic winery in Gaiole in Chianti, a territory in the province of Siena that falls among the 8 municipalities of the Black Rooster, founded in the 11th century by Vallombrosian monks as a place of worship. The Stucchi Prinetti family, the current owners, bought the property in 1846, turning it into an agricultural estate. In 1994 the winery converted to organic farming in order to minimize environmental impact while preserving the health of the ecosystem, and their Riserva is released only in the best vintages.

Chianti Classico Badia, a Coltibuono Riserva, consists of a solid base of Sangiovese which is added 10 percent Canaiolo Nero, varieties raised under a certified organic system. The rows of vines are located at an altitude between 260 and 370 meters above sea level and are planted on medium-textured soils rich in calcareous clay. Once ripe, the grapes are harvested and vinified in red with alcoholic fermentation that is accompanied by at least 3 weeks of maceration on the skins. The ensuing ageing phase takes place in French and Austrian oak barrels for 24 months, followed by at least 4 months of further bottle ageing before release.

Intense ruby red is the colour of Chianti Classico Riserva di Badia a Coltibuono, which on the nose expresses inviting hints of cherries in spirit, wild berries, flower petals and balsamic herbs, enhanced by articulate hints of liquorice and chocolate. Warm, pleasant and beautifully balanced on the palate, characterized by generous body, great freshness and soft tannic texture. Long finish that insists on the perceptions perceived on the nose.
