CHIANTI CLASSICO RISERVA 'PETRI' CASTELLO DI VICCHIOMAGGIO 2021 DESCRIPTION

Castello di Vicchiomaggio Chianti Classico Riserva 'Petri' is a Tuscan red wine endowed with an articulate and enveloping aromatic profile. The magnificent castle where the estate stands, around which are 34 hectares of vineyards, was built in the 12th century with a defensive function. Over nearly a millennium, many illustrious people stayed there, among them Leonardo Da Vinci. Today, the property belongs to the Matta family, which with the union of tradition and innovation, produces wines from the territory with an eco-sustainable production approach. The castle is also used for hospitality and includes a restaurant offering traditional Tuscan dishes.

Chianti Classico 'Petri' Riserva from Castello di Vicchiomaggio is derived primarily from Sangiovese grapes, blended with 5% Canaiolo and an additional 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. The vines are over 20 years old and planted on soils rich in clay and marl. After manual harvesting and careful selection, the grapes are transferred to the winery, where they are mellowed in stainless steel tanks for temperature-controlled alcoholic fermentation, accompanied by 12-15 days of contact between the must and skins. Then, after malolactic fermentation has also taken place, the mass is placed to mature in barriques for 6 months and in large barrels for an additional 9 months.

'Petri' Chianti Classico Riserva Castello di Vicchiomaggio is deep ruby red in colour. Elegant notes of cherry, morello cherry, violet and tobacco follow on the nose, enriched by balsamic and herbal hints. Full-bodied and intense palate, of beautiful structure and class, with a pleasant softness that drives the fine and persistent finish. A bottle that goes well with traditional Tuscan dishes such as pici with chianina ragu.
