The "Berardenga" Chianti Classico Riserva from Felsina is a true homage to tradition. It is, in fact, a red wine produced from only Sangiovese grapes, a varietal that has been the object of love and study by the Felsina winery. The vineyards used are located in Castelnuovo Berardenga, from which the wine takes its name, northeast of Siena. Felsina is, first and foremost, heterogeneity, a varied world of different soils, microclimates, altitudes, vines and clones related to a variety. Since 1983, the winery has been engaged in constant research and selection of the biotypes present in order to obtain the best and most diverse vine/terroir ratios, a key pair in winemaking.
Sangiovese grapes are the undisputed protagonists of Chianti Classico Riserva "Berardenga." They are harvested at different times of the year, depending on the different altitudes at which the various vineyards are located. Regardless of the harvest time, all grapes are subject to careful selection. Crushing and destemming originate the must, which undergoes alcoholic fermentation and maceration in stainless steel tanks. Between March and April, the wine is transferred to French oak barriques and to medium-sized Slavonian oak casks. In these wooden containers, the wine aged between 12 and 16 months. At the end of the ageing period, the various batches of wine, which have remained separate up to this point according to the vineyard of origin, are blended to create the most expressive blend of Sangiovese. Once bottled, the wine waits for another 3 to 6 months before being put on the market.
"Berardenga" is a Riserva Chianti Classico with a deep ruby red hue. The bouquet opens the dances with fruity aromas and spicy notes, which then give way to darker timbres of underbrush and graphite. On the palate, the fruity character resurfaces, complemented by soft, enveloping tannins. Alcohol and structure are well present but balanced by a beautiful, lively freshness. A wine born to amaze, now as for many years to follow.
