Melini's 'San Lorenzo' is a Chianti Superiore with a glossy ruby red colour reminiscent of wild berry jams and violets. Fresh, round and persistent, it undergoes a brief passage in wooden barrels before ending up on the tables of those who desire a full and decisive wine, to be enjoyed with tagliatelle al ragù or with a platter of cured meats and semi-matured cheeses
The Chianti Superiore 'San Lorenzo' from the extensive Tuscan producer Melini is a delicious and enveloping Chianti interpretation. This bottle originates from the namesake San Lorenzo estate, situated on the hills of Val d’Elsa, at the historical border between Chianti and Chianti Classico, in a beautiful green setting of vineyards and cypress trees. The estate, one of the five owned by Melini, houses the winery, built in the 1970s on four underground levels designed to facilitate a gravity-fed production process, thus preventing excessive stress on the grapes and wine.
The 'San Lorenzo' Melini Chianti Superiore is produced from a solid base of Sangiovese Grosso combined with other complementary red grapes. The rows of vines are planted at an altitude of 330 meters above sea level on soils rich in marine fossils, formed from yellow-ochre sands of Pliocene origin, locally known as "Senese tuff." In the winery, the clusters undergo a pre-fermentation maceration for a few days, followed by red vinification with alcoholic fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks and subsequent malolactic fermentation. After the fermentation processes are completed, the wine is transferred to wooden barrels for maturation for several months before final bottling.
The Melini 'San Lorenzo' Chianti Superiore is a bright ruby red. Aromatic notes of plum, raspberry, violet, and wild berry jam describe its aromatic profile, associated with delicate spicy hints and toasted almond notes. The taste is round, enveloping, and medium-bodied, with pleasant freshness and well-integrated, firm tannins, leading to a savory and slightly almond-like finish of good persistence.
