Melini is a historic estate in the Chianti area, founded back in 1705 and now an established brand whose bottles can be found in every corner of the globe. The winery, based in Poggibonsi, in the province of Siena, can boast a prestigious record, having been the first, in 1969, to produce a Chianti Classico from a single vineyard, in this case that of 'La Selvanella', a testimony to the pioneering approach that has always characterised this Chianti wine-growing entity. Today the winery is part of the Gruppo Italiano Vini, the most important in Italy in the production and marketing of high quality wines.

The Melini estate has a very respectable landholding with over 550 hectares in total, 86 of which are dedicated to viticulture, spread across the territories of Chianti, Chianti Classico, San Gimignano, Montepulciano and Montalcino. In particular, the Chianti vineyards are spread over 5 different estates: San Lorenzo, Granaio, Bonorli, I Coltri and Poggio a Rosi, each with its own specific identity. The varietal pool includes a wide assortment of traditional grape varieties such as Sangiovese, Canaiolo, Colorino, Malvasia del Chianti, Trebbiano Toscano, San Colombano and Vernaccia. Altitudes range from 300 to 400 metres above sea level while soils are very heterogeneous, characterised by the presence of marine fossils, alberese, sandstone, galestro, limestone and stones, depending on the area. Stainless steel tanks or cement vats are used for fermentation, with subsequent maturation always taking place in steel or cement for the fresher, more immediate wines, or in wooden barrels of varying capacities for the more substantial labels. An exception is the Vin Santo del Chianti Classico Occhio di Pernice, which is instead vinified and aged for a decade in small kegs, in keeping with tradition.

Melini's production is very wide and varied, based on the excellencies of Chianti, a territory interpreted through a modern style of great pleasantness, suitable to satisfy a vast assortment of palates.
