Jurassic limestone-clay soils and beautiful east-facing exposures enable the production of outstanding Pinot Noirs that are among the elite of the region's best reds.
The "Clos des Lambrays" Grand Cru belongs to Domaine des Lambrays, a legendary estate in Burgundy, now part of the LVMH Group. The vineyard covers an area of 8.7 hectares and has always been recognized as one of the best in the entire Côte de Nuits. The Grand Cru is managed almost on a monopole basis by the domaine, located right next to the legendary Clos de Tart. The vines are grown following the rules of organic farming on a fairly steep slope, and harvesting is done manually, with selection of the healthiest and ripest grapes. Vinification is done using a high percentage of whole clusters to give longevity and character to the wines. At the end of the classic fermentation with maceration on the skins, the wine rests for 18 to 24 months in French oak barrels, with 50 to 60 percent new wood, depending on the character of the vintage.
