Gaja's Costa Russi is a Barbaresco of great importance and intensity: a true champion. After a long aging of 12 months in barrique and another 12 in barrel, it presents a bouquet of rare elegance and complexity. The robust and structured taste heralds a great aging potential
Gaja's Barbaresco Costa Russi is a wine made from the homonymous vineyard located in the commune of Barbaresco. The name is the result of a union between the Piedmontese dialect term Costa, which indicates the hillside with the best southern exposure, and the nickname of the vineyard's former owner, "Russi," from which Angelo Gaja produces this great wine.
Barbaresco Costa Russi is made from Nebbiolo grapes, harvested by hand and carefully fermented in steel vats; afterwards, the wine is aged in barrique for 12 months and then matured in botte grande for another 12 months so that aromas and flavours are brought out to the fullest.
This exceptional wine presents a garnet red colour with elegant orange highlights. The nose is a triumph: violets and medicinal herbs, roasted notes of coffee, currants and ripe plums ennobled by memories of mint chocolate. On the palate, the wine proves intriguing and robust, rich and profoundly structured, with mineral undertones, savoury and endowed with great tannic persistence.
