The golden yellow color with greenish highlights intrudes intense aromas and mineral sensations while the palate enjoys a broad, well-structured sip
The renowned Piedmontese estate Borgogno presents Derthona 'Scaldapulce', a label with a mineral soul, an expression of Borgogno's first vineyard of separately vinified Timorasso Derthona, modelled on the Barolo crus. This label, inaugurated with the 2019 vintage, comes from a careful selection of grapes harvested in a 3-hectare plot in Monleale, where the bunches are chosen at a higher altitude based on the best plant exposures. This is a bottle produced in very limited quantities that reflects the adventurous and pioneering spirit that has always guided the Borgogno winery's production.
Borgogno Derthona 'Scaldapulce' is a 100% Timorasso from vines planted in the Scaldapulce vineyard on limestone and loamy soils, 250 metres above sea level. Manual harvesting is accompanied by a scrupulous selection of the grapes, which are then subjected to a short pre-fermentation cryomaceration. After soft pressing, the indigenous yeasts carry out spontaneous alcoholic fermentation in temperature-controlled cement vats for a total duration of approximately 25 days. This is followed by 18 months of maturation on the fine lees in stainless steel tanks and a further 7 months of bottle ageing before release.
The colour of Borgogno's Timorasso Derthona 'Scaldapulce' is golden yellow with greenish flashes. The olfactory range is intense and varied, described by scents of white flowers, yellow-fleshed fruit, citrus and aromatic herbs that blend with the vibrant mineral chord. The taste is balanced and rather vertical, endowed with excellent structure, pleasant softness and a fresh, savoury component. The long finish insists on distinctly mineral sensations. A Timorasso with a surprisingly energetic character, destined for long ageing if properly stored.
