Eraldo Revelli's Dogliani Superiore 'San Matteo' Magnum is the child of careful and rigorous production right from the selection of the Dolcetto grapes in the cellar, made by hand at harvest time. A wine with a strong personality, deep and austere that knows how to tell its story with its soft and fine sip, perfectly representing the incredible vocation to viticulture of the territory and its farmers
Dogliani Superiore 'San Matteo', from the Eraldo Revelli winery, is a pure Dolcetto that expresses the best characteristics of the vine, cultivated in one of the most vocated areas. The name refers to the place where it is born, a vineyard located next to a small church dedicated to St. Matthew. It is, to all intents and purposes, a real cru, which has always been known for the excellent quality of its grapes. In order to preserve the rich fruitiness, vinification is still carried out with artisanal care, and the partial ageing in wood softens the wine, while leaving the grape's typical immediacy and fragrance unaltered. A wine of great territorial typicality, a true ambassador of the Dogliani area and its princely vine.
San Matteo' is a Dogliani Superiore that is the result of the experience of an area that has been cultivating vines and producing wine for three generations. The Eraldo Revelli winery was founded in 1931 and runs an estate in the hilly area of Belvedere Langhe, not far from Dogliani. The mild climate and soils composed of clay-limestone marls provide an ideal habitat for Dolcetto, an indigenous red grape variety. The Vigna San Matteo vineyard is about 35 years old and is located at an altitude of 450 metres above sea level, facing south-west. Manual harvesting takes place at the beginning of October and the grapes are subjected to fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, with maceration on the skins for about ten days. The wine matures for 6 months in steel tanks and in large wooden barrels.
Eraldo Revelli's Dogliani Superiore 'San Matteo' is a splendid version of the territory's most typical wine. It is the classic red, which even in the past could never be missing from Piedmontese tables. It is no coincidence that it possesses an extraordinary ductility and goes very well with many regional dishes. It seduces the eye with a beautiful dark ruby colour with youthful violet reflections. Intense and rich, it expresses an olfactory profile characterised by aromas of ripe red fruit, cherry, wild berries, black cherry, plum, floral nuances of violets and delicate hints of soft spices. Full-bodied, it has a dense and elegant tannic structure, enveloped by dense and satisfying fruit. The finish is harmonious and balanced, with a good taste persistence.
