Tenuta delle Terre Nere's Etna Rosso '20th Anniversary' is a vibrant expression of Etna's volcanic terroir. Nerello Mascalese, the prince of the volcano, dominates the blend produced from grapes harvested from young, vital plants in the prized Calderara Sottana district. Very juicy, on the nose are evident hints of red fruits, citrus fruits and Mediterranean herbaceous notes. The palate reveals itself to be energetic and harmonious, with a dynamic freshness that balances a tannic but creamy sip, all crowned by an intriguing balsamic finish
Tenuta delle Terre Nere's Etna Rosso '20th Anniversary' is alabel of sublime charm and territoriality, produced with the 2022 vintage to celebrate the winery's 20 vintages. In fact, the story of Tenuta delle Terre Nere began in 2002, the first vintage of Marc de Grazia on the slopes of Etna, who immediately sensed the formidable qualitative potential and extraordinary heterogeneity of the territory, deciding to vinify the grapes of each Contrada separately. To celebrate this anniversary, the producer chose grapes from a young vineyard located in Contrada Calderara Sottana, the estate's most important cru.
The '20th Anniversary' Tenuta delle Terre Nere Etna Rosso comes from a solid base of Nerello Mascalese grapes combined with just 5% Nerello Cappuccio. The vines, planted between 2006 and 2007, are located in Contrada Calderara Sottana, specifically in the Bellacolonna vineyard, where they rest on rocky soils of volcanic nature located at an altitude of 600-650 metres above sea level. Following manual harvesting, the grapes are mellowed in stainless steel tanks for alcoholic fermentation in contact with the skins, with the subsequent 18-month ageing phase taking place in first-passage oak casks. This is followed by an appropriate period of rest in the bottle before final release.
The '20th Anniversary' Etna Rosso Tenuta delle Terre Nere is an intense garnet red colour. The olfactory panorama is described by intense fruity and floral scents of cherry, blood orange and lavender, surrounded by hints of Mediterranean scrub reminiscent of thyme, spicy notes of vanilla and herbaceous-balsamic tones of eucalyptus. The progression on the palate reveals great elegance and savouriness, with the silky tannic texture and vibrant freshness uniting in a very persistent finish, characterised by a volcanic mineral profile.
