The Etna Rosso “Martinella” is a rich, intense and elegant wine from the homonym village at 600 m above sea level on the volcanic slope, aged for 30 months in old barriques. It has a deep and delicate bouquet of wild fruits in jam, spices, pepper and underbush. On the palate it is vigorous and energic but also elegant and gently, with lively and smooth tannins on the finish
The Etna Rosso “Martinella” wine made by the Vivera wine cellar is a product capable of conveying not only all the grace of the type and grape varieties used, but above all a great territorial adherence that is revealed in the glass thanks to a marked woody and mineral sensation. In fact, the Nerello Mascalese and Cappuccio grapes grow at a point in the Contrada Martinella whose boundary marks the start of an expanse of woodland, whose aromas and nuances are noticeable on the nose. This “Martinella” thus confirms itself as the quint’essence of the Contrada from which it originates.
The Etna Rosso “Martinella” originates from a blend where, alongside 90% Nerello Mascalese, we also find a dash of Nerello Cappuccio. The vines of these varieties are grown in the volcanic soils of Contrada Martinella, some 600 metres above sea level on the north-eastern slope of Etna. Between the rows of vines, work follows organic farming practices. Once the grapes reach Vivera's winemaking facilities, they undergo a cold pre-fermentation maceration, then ferment by macerating on the skins for 15 days. Refinement takes place first in barriques for 30 months, and then, after bottling, for a further 12 months directly in glass.
The Etna Rosso “Martinella” wine reveals itself to the eye with a light, pale ruby colour, crossed by veins tending towards garnet in the rim. The nose is ample, with a variety of aromas, starting with mineral and spicy notes and ending with fruity sensations and touches of aromatic herbs and undergrowth. On the palate it is full-bodied, lively and muscular, with a full, rounded mouthfeel that envelops the palate thanks to an important tannic texture; it finishes with an excellently persistent finish. A label with which the Vivera winery obtains interesting scores, both at home and abroad.
