Etna Rosso 'San Lorenzo' Girolamo Russo 2021

The Etna Rosso  "San Lorenzo" is a great interpretation of Sicily's volcanic terroir. The bouquet exudes scents of red fruits and noble spices with balsamic and woody hints. The body is of fine balance, muscular and elegant at the same time, in which the chiseled tannin intertwines with good alcoholic warmth in a long and deep harmony

ETNA ROSSO 'SAN LORENZO' GIROLAMO RUSSO 2021 DESCRIPTION

Girolamo Russo's Etna Rosso "San Lorenzo" is a wine born on the slopes of Mount Etna in the province of Catania. The winery was founded in 2005 thanks to the passion and knowledge of Giuseppe Russo, who picked up the legacy of his father, Girolamo, soon becoming a point of reference for wine production in the area. His idea is to recover his family's values, interpreting them in a modern key in order to make his business sustainable and futuristic. With this in mind, he has chosen a completely organic farming regime, a choice that has helped in the recovery of old, 100-year-old vines that otherwise would have been lost.

Girolamo Russo's Etna Rosso "San Lorenzo" vineyards grow in a favourable climate characterized by abundant rainfall that makes the soil flourish and nourishes the roots. The soil is of volcanic origin: lava spilled over time has created layer after layer different from each other, creating a diversity of composition that is also reflected in the final products. The name "San Lorenzo" refers to the district where the vineyards are located, set on gentle hillsides between 700 and 800 meters above sea level. Harvesting is by hand; alcoholic fermentation is triggered by the action of indigenous yeasts in steel, and the must subsequently macerate for 13 days on the skins. It ages 20 months in French barriques and 6 months in bottles.

The colour of Girolamo Russo's Etna Rosso "San Lorenzo" is an intense ruby red with brilliant reflections; the bouquet is multifaceted, characterized by notes of red berry fruits such as blackberry, plum and currant, in union with notes of herbs, mint and leather. On the palate, it is elegant with a dense network of tannins, symbolic of the territorial expression to which it belongs; important is the final persistence that draws the drinker in. In pairing excellently with local game, traditional grilled and stewed red meat cuts; also curious with aged cow's and sheep's milk cheeses. Perfect for the family holiday table to share a genuine product and the fruit of a wine artisan's experience.
