Etna Rosso 'Scalunera' Terre Mora 2021

Torre Mora's Etna Rosso 'Scalunera', born at 700 metres on the slopes of Etna, is a Sicilian red wine of great finesse. The name evokes the natural staircase of the vineyard that opens onto the heights of the volcano. On the nose there are hints of cherries, red fruits, Mediterranean scrub and a smoky tone, a complex aromatic profile. On the palate it unfolds soft but concentrated, with silky tannins that open the scene to a savoury finish. Ideal with meat dishes or intense traditional Sicilian fish dishes

ETNA ROSSO 'SCALUNERA' TERRE MORA 2021 DESCRIPTION

The Etna Rosso 'Scalunera' from the Torre Mora - Piccini winery represents a deep and spicy interpretation of the northern slope of Etna, the place where Tuscan wine entrepreneur Mario Piccini chose to embark on a new adventure in 2016. The small Torre Mora estate is located in Rovittello, a hamlet in the municipality of Castiglione di Sicilia. After purchasing the property, Mario dedicated himself to the renovation of the vineyards and the cellar, with the aim of producing authentic 'volcanic' wines.

Torre Mora - Piccini Etna Rosso 'Scalunera' is made using a solid base of Nerello Mascalese grapes (97%) associated with just 3% of Nerello Cappuccio, a variety organically grown and certified on Etna's northern slope. In particular, the vines rest on soils of a volcanic nature, shallow and very rich in mineral elements, located at an altitude of between 600 and 700 metres above sea level in an area characterised by significant temperature excursions between day and night, favourable for the aromatic ripening of the grapes. In the wine cellar, the grapes are mulled in stainless steel tanks, containers in which alcoholic fermentation takes place with maceration on the skins. The subsequent ageing phase takes place in oak barrels for a long period of 24 months, followed by a rest period of at least 4 months in the bottle before final release.

The 'Scalunera' Etna Rosso di Torre Mora - Piccini is light and luminous ruby red in colour. The fascinating olfactory panorama is described by notes of cherry, blackcurrant, blackberry, tangerine, thyme, red flowers, moss and juniper, surrounded by evocative smoky mineral hints. The palate is soft and complex, distinctly savoury, with the silky tannic texture supporting the overall structure.
