ETNA ROSSO TENUTA DELLE TERRE NERE 2022 DESCRIPTION

Etna Rosso Tenuta delle Terre Nere is a slender and very pleasant wine, a stately red with a high gastronomic vocation, and a versatile companion to the table. It is an expression of the terroir of the hilly belt stretching between Solicchiata and Randazzo, historically important for the production of great red wines. Tenuta delle Terre Nere was born from Marco de Grazia's deep love for Etna and all that; this means: already the name pays homage to the soil covered by black sand, a volcanic residue of ash. The uniqueness and the beauty of the slopes of Etna make the wines produced here something extraordinary, especially with the passion and research of the Catania-based Tenuta.

The Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio grapes that makeup Tenute delle terre Nere's Etna Rosso come from the estate's own vineyards, which cover about 30 hectares in the municipalities of Castiglione di Sicilia and Randazzo. They can boast, alongside very young plantings, the presence of very old vines, ranging from 50 to 140 years old, so they are even free-range. The plants are rooted on volcanic soils and are bush-trained, as tradition dictates. Harvest falls in the second and third decade of October, and then fermentation takes place at controlled temperatures between 25°C and 28°C. Ageing takes place in large French oak barrels and lasts 12 to 18 months, ending with 1 month in steel.

Etna Rosso Tenuta delle Terre Nere has a pleasant ruby colour appearance and a fruity and sweet bouquet, where hints of ripe fruit and spicy ones complement each other. It caresses the palate with balance and good intensity, winning it over with its freshness and fragrance. With firm tannins but equally integrated into the overall texture, it is a wine that gains complexity and richness as the years go by, always maintaining an incredible finesse. A very versatile wine in the kitchen, worthily paired with dishes of a certain elegance.
