FARO BONAVITA 2020 DESCRIPTION

Giovanni Scarfone's Faro di Bonavita is a stunning red that embodies the essence of its terroir, an exciting journey among aromatic herbs, capers and iodine. An extraordinary interpreter of an appellation that is perhaps too little known as that of Faro, Giovanni Scarfone has decided to tell the story of this cross-section of northeastern Sicily without filters or constraints, taking care of a ''garden'' of vines of just 2.5 hectares and deciding not to prevaricate it with the use of any chemical or synthetic substances. The vines cultivated are those of the local tradition, namely Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio and Nocera, and the winery's production is basically limited to two wines, namely a red and a rosé, both splendid for how they manage to combine expressiveness and finesse. Authenticity and character at the service of all, given the transversality of bottles that cannot be missed in every drinker's cellar.

The Faro red is made from a blend of Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio and Nocera obtained from vineyards located in Faro Superiore that rest on clay and limestone soils at an altitude of 250 m (250 ft). In the vineyard, herbicides, pesticides and chemical fertilizers are not used, and only copper, sulfur and green manure are used to help. In the winery, the same philosophy is continued, and all alcoholic fermentations take place spontaneously without the addition of sulfur or any other chemical additives, while in the winemaking phase, long macerations and ageing of 16 months in oak barrels, followed by 4 months in the bottle, are used.

Faro wine presents itself in the glass with a dark, bright and lively ruby-red guise. Olfactory impact with Mediterranean warmth, where hints of wild scrub, iodine, capers and balsamic gusts chase each other. The sip is intense but elegant and lives on a continuous dualism between pulp and freshness, finalized by a long persistence that fades on notes of black pepper. Bright light.
