Red 'Felix' Tenuta Montiani 2020

Tenuta Montiani's 'Felix' Red is an organic wine from the Chianti region. Produced in the San Polo area, the grapes are harvested from the Terra Bianca and Merendero vineyards, where the winery harvests Sangiovese and other 'ancillary' grapes. Felix is an intense sensory experience: on the nose there are hints of red fruits such as cherries and hints of Mediterranean scrub, in the mouth it is forthright, juicy and full-bodied. An exuberant red that fully embodies the spirit of the vintage and its terroir

RED 'FELIX' TENUTA MONTIANI 2020 DESCRIPTION

The Rosso ‘Felix’ from Tenuta Montiani is born from a classic Chianti blend, delivering a wine with a strong and authentic personality, much like the family running the winery. Located in San Polo in Chianti, in the province of Florence, the estate is managed by Marinella Vallauri and Michele Gherardo Totaro, along with David Picci and Matteo Vallauri. Together, they operate a diversified agricultural farm producing wine, olive oil, honey, and raising poultry, pigs, and donkeys. The family’s agronomic philosophy is rooted in organic farming and minimal enological intervention, values that shape characterful wines, led by the flagship label, ‘Felix.’

Tenuta Montiani’s Rosso ‘Felix’ is based primarily on Sangiovese grapes (80%), complemented by Mammolo and Canaiolo, other traditional Chianti varieties. The grapes come mainly from the ‘Terra Bianca’ vineyard, planted in the 1970s, with a smaller portion sourced from the ‘Merendero’ vineyard. The vines are cultivated following certified organic farming principles and grow on predominantly galestro soils at an altitude of 350 meters above sea level. Harvesting is done entirely by hand with meticulous grape selection, followed by destemming and maceration in stainless steel vats, where only indigenous yeasts drive the alcoholic fermentation alongside approximately three weeks of skin contact. The wine is then aged in large wooden barrels for 10 to 20 months before bottling.

The color of Tenuta Montiani’s Rosso ‘Felix’ is a delicate ruby red with garnet reflections. Its aromatic profile opens with intense notes of red fruits and blood orange, enriched by spicy hints and echoes of Mediterranean scrub. On the palate, it shows good structure and significant intensity, with a straightforward progression supported by well-integrated tannins and lively, juicy freshness.
