Fiano 'Orfeo' Antico Castello 2022

The Fiano from Antico Castello winery is a fine and refined white wine produced in Irpinia, a land of history, landscapes and great grape varieties, first and foremost precisely the Fiano. On the nose it offers scents of daisies, chamomile, green apple and hazelnut, accompanied by refreshing herbaceous hints, while on the palate it offers a very balanced sip, in which the typical saline notes play on the finish with slight smoky nuances. A territorial wine that best expresses the great varietal personality of the grape variety from which it is made

FIANO 'ORFEO' ANTICO CASTELLO 2022 DESCRIPTION

The Fiano 'Orfeo' from the family-run Antico Castello winery is a typically refined and mineral Fiano. Like the estate's other labels, all of which focus on traditional Irpinia grape varieties, this Fiano is named after a character from Greek mythology, in this case, Orpheus, a cantor who managed to enchant animals with his lyre. Famous is his descent into the underworld to bring back to life his beloved deceased bride, Eurydice.

Orfeo' Antico Castello Fiano is a pure expression of the indigenous white grape variety of the same name, trained on guyot vines at Castel Poppano. Here, the vines benefit from the altitude of 400 metres above sea level and the clayey-calcareous matrix of the soils. The grapes are harvested by hand during the first ten days of October. They are then softly crushed and placed for a few hours in pre-fermentation maceration. After gentle pressing, the must is transferred into stainless steel tanks for alcoholic fermentation at a controlled temperature. These are the same wine vats where the mass is left to mature for about 6 months on the fine lees and then continues its refinement in the bottle.

Antico Castello's Fiano 'Orfeo' has a brilliant, luminous straw yellow colour. Its bouquet is delicate and fragrant, rich in fruity and floral hints, including perceptions of daisy, chamomile, peach and green apple, combined with light herbaceous hints and hints of hazelnut. In the mouth, it is fresh and graceful, with an elegant and balanced progression that rests on a persistent savoury and slightly smoky finish. Orfeo lends itself exceptionally well to pairing with refined dishes such as risotto or elaborate fish-based main courses.
