Andrea Scovero's Freisa d'Asti is a true winemaker's wine, produced in the Asti region by Andrea, who is a wine craftsman. This red comes from 8-year-old vineyards that are organically managed with the sole use of copper and sulphur. The harvest takes place at the end of September, with a pre-harvest for the 'pied de cuve'. This is a frank wine, with intense red fruit aromas embraced by gentle, subtle hints of spice on the finish. On the palate, it surprises with its warmth and impact, but the sip is fresh and juicy. A perfect wine to pair with
The Freisa d'Asti of Piedmont winemaker Andrea Scovero is a juicy, fruity Freisa, the product of an artisanal winemaking approach. We are in Bionzo, a small hamlet in the commune of Costigliole d'Asti, a place where Andrea Scovero manages just 6 hectares of vines with the utmost respect for the soil, the plants and the environment in general, excluding any synthetic chemical substances in favour of the use of natural preparations, sulphur and very low doses of copper. The same genuine vision is adopted in the cellar, where the grapes are indulged in their spontaneous transformation into wine without any manipulation or invasive additions.
Andrea Scovero Freisa d'Asti is made from pure Freisa grapes cultivated under a certified organic system on soils consisting mainly of clay, limestone and sand. Harvesting is done strictly by hand and is followed by the alcoholic fermentation process in stainless steel tanks, entrusted solely to indigenous yeasts with the aid of a "pied de cuve". Maceration on the skins lasts for about two weeks while the subsequent ageing phase uses old oak barrels, containers in which the wine stays for about 18 months until final bottling. Throughout the entire process, the invasive use of additives and oenological aids is excluded.
In the glass, Andrea Scovero's Freisa d'Asti exhibits a deep ruby red mantle. The rich and seductive olfactory mosaic is composed of intense aromas of cherry and pepper, enhanced by hints of aromatic herbs, flowers and various spices. In the mouth, it is ample and enveloping, juicy and with good freshness, with a well-integrated tannic texture that preludes a long and pleasantly persistent finish. This is a highly gastronomic Freisa, to be enjoyed throughout the meal as an accompaniment to tasty first courses or succulent main courses.
