FRIULANO VILLA DE PUPPI 2023 DESCRIPTION

Villa de Puppi presents its Friulano within a range of wines entirely dedicated to the typical varieties of the regional area where the family has established its roots since the dawn of the 13th century, fleeing a Florence torn by strife. This is a white to be enjoyed in every season, a beautiful expression of the quintessential native.

Villa de Puppi's Friulano comes from the pure vinification of the variety emblematic, by historical tradition and news events, of the Friuli Venezia Giulia region. Taj Blanc, as Friulano is otherwise known locally, comes from estate plots located in two distinct territories. In the plain of the municipality of Moimacco, home to the winery a short distance from Cividale, the soil is essentially a clay matrix with a good spread of limestone rock. Farther south, on the rolling hills of Rosazzo, in the middle of the Colli Orientali del Friuli, the soil consists of so-called ponca, a dialect term for the overlapping layers of marl and sandstone formed in the Eocene epoch. The grapes are selected from the rows that have the oldest planting ages, with an initial sorting as early as at harvest. In the cellar, short anaerobic maceration is carried out at a low temperature to favour the extraction of primary aromas, followed by alcoholic fermentation in steel tanks by selected yeasts and at a controlled temperature between 15 and 17 °C. Subsequent ageing is continued for several months in steel.

Friulano di Villa de Puppi presents a luminous pale straw yellow robe. The bouquet of aromas is essentially spring-like and fresh, with delicate nuances of orange blossom and lime and fruity notes of peach, with more ripe and tropical nuances. The sip shows an impact of pleasant softness but tends toward a nice dry finish, with definitely mineral and citrusy richness and a finish of unmistakable almond bitterness. A white that seems perfect with fresh vegetable dishes, eggs with asparagus and as an accompaniment to shellfish.
