GEVREY CHAMBERTIN 'COEUR DU ROY-TRES VIEILLES VIGNES' BERNARD DUGAT-PY 2018 DESCRIPTION

Gevrey-Chambertin 'Coeur du Roy-Tres Vieilles Vignes', from Domaine Bernard Dugat-Py, is a great Pinot Noir. It is made from a selection of grapes from old vines only, producing a few bunches per vine of great aromatic richness and complexity. Gevrey-Chambertin represents a mythical place in Burgundy, which has been producing wines of extraordinary quality for centuries. This ancient village on the Côte de Nuits is home to no fewer than 26 Climat classified Premier Cru and nine prestigious Grand Cru. Its legendary Pinot Noirs have always been recognised as some of the noblest and most prized reds in the world, the fruit of an extraordinary terroir and centuries-old savoir-faire.

Pinot Noir Gevrey-Chambertin 'Coeur du Roy-Tres Vieilles Vignes' is the fruit of the work of a historic family of vignerons, who have been cultivating vines in Burgundy since the 17th century. Today, the thirteenth generation manages an estate with a collection of exceptionally valuable vineyards. Since 2003, the vineyards of Domaine Bernard Dugat-Py have been organically farmed, with full respect for nature. The vines are born from a mass selection, so as to perpetuate the ancient biotypes present on the estate. The wine comes from the oldest vines, which are between 55 and 90 years old: plants that sink their roots deep into the soil in search of water and nutrients and have developed a perfect interaction with the soil. Every year they yield grapes of excellent quality and suffer much less from water stress and critical climatic conditions. After vinification in red, with maceration on the skins, the wine matures for 16-18 months in French oak barrels, 80% new.

"Coeur du Roy-Tres Vieilles Vignes" from Domaine Bernard Dugat-Py is a Gevrey-Chambertin that represents the history of the territory, expressed by venerable vines, which for centuries have lived in the cradle of the world's greatest Pinot Noirs. In the glass, it is ruby red in colour with garnet highlights. On the nose it offers aromas of small red berries, hints of liquorice, medicinal herbs, notes of undergrowth and nuances of noble woods. Elegant and intense, it has fine, ripe tannins and complex aromas that anticipate a fresh, lingering finish. A great Pinot Noir, deep and fascinating, to be enjoyed on a special evening.
