GEVREY CHAMBERTIN 'LA MARIE' CLAUDE DUGAT 2018 DESCRIPTION

Claude Dugat's Gevrey-Chambertin "La Marie" is an expression of one of the estate's best plots, located in the lieu-dit of the same name. Always renowned for the quality of its grapes, it has been enhanced with an ad hoc label, capable of restoring all the elegance of a great Pinot Noir. The Domaine was born from a long family tradition, in one of the most famous terroirs of the Côte de Nuits. Gevrey-Chambertin is located near the combe de Lavaux, in an area where vine cultivation has been present since Roman times and has been handed down thanks to the work of the monks of the Abbey of Cluny. The territory of the prestigious Appellation includes no fewer than 26 Climat classified as Premier Cru and 9 Grand Cru.

"La Marie" is a Gevrey-Chambertin by Claude Dugat that was born in the cradle of Pinot Noir. The Gevrey-Chambertin vineyard is located at an altitude of between 280 and 380 metres above sea level, on soils mainly composed of limestone-clay marl, which is particularly suited to red grapes. The Dugat family has been cultivating vines on these lands for several generations, but it was only in 1990 that Claude Dugat, aware of the value of his vines, decided to stop selling the grapes and to start bottling on his own. The domaine covers a total area of six hectares, divided into numerous small parcels. Thanks to meticulous work in the countryside and vinification carried out in the best tradition of the area, it quickly established itself as one of the best interpreters of the area with straightforward, direct wines, an authentic expression of the marriage between vine and soil. After fermentation with classic maceration on the skins, the wine matures for about a year in French oak barrels.

The Gevrey Chambertin "La Marie" Claude Dugat is a pure Pinot Noir of great elegance, made only with grapes from a small vineyard near the Château of Gevrey-Chambertin. In the glass, it has a luminous ruby red colour. On the nose, it offers refined aromas with nuances of violets, aromas of small red berries, morello cherries, currants, raspberries, delicately spiced hints of liquorice root and hints of wood. To the palate it is medium-bodied, with a very fine tannic texture, multifaceted, complex aromas and a fresh, persistent finish.
