GEWURZTRAMINER 'KASTELAZ' ELENA WALCH 2022 DESCRIPTION

Elena Walch's Gewurztraminer "Kastelaz" is one of the most famous and popular versions of this aromatic grape variety native to central Europe, which for centuries has found a second home in South Tyrol, and particularly in the area of Tramin. The result of a selection of grapes from a single vineyard that is particularly suited, it is a white wine that combines remarkable aromatic richness with elegance and freshness. It is a Gewurztraminer of great expressive harmony and persuasive, aromatic style, which does not give in to the temptation to exasperate the fruity and sugary softness, always maintaining a refined, rigorous and balanced body, which gives the glass an extraordinary drinkability.

The "Kastelaz" Gewurztraminer is produced by one of the great names in South Tyrolean wine. Elena Walch runs with her daughters one of the historic wineries in the Tramin area, with origins dating back to the late 19th century. Today the estate covers about 60 hectares, with some particularly fine plots, such as the Kastelaz and Castel Ringberg vineyards. The mild, sunny and breezy climate of the Tramin area allows excellent ripening, with grapes having particularly intense aromatic profiles. Here Gewurztraminer reaches heights of excellence that are difficult to match and yields wines of great appeal. The aromaticity of the grape variety marries with the minerality of the soils, resulting in wines that stand out for their expressive finesse.

Elena Walch's "Kastelaz" is a Gewurztraminer that comes from a real cru on the estate. The vineyard is located above the village of Tramin, with a wonderful midday exposure. It is one of the best versions of Gewurztraminer in all of Alto Adige, and has always been a model of elegance and finesse. At the end of the harvest, the grapes undergo a 6-hour cold maceration. This is followed by soft pressing and fermentation of the must in temperature-controlled steel vats. Before bottling, the wine rests for several months in steel vats on its lees. The color is straw yellow. The bouquet is rich and complex, with floral aromas of rose petal, white flowers, lime, lime zest, yellow fruit, light tropical hints and delicate spicy flavors. The sip opens softly with an intense and persistent body, lengthening toward a savory and refreshing finish.
