GEWURZTRAMINER MACERATION MELANIE PFISTER 2021 DESCRIPTION

The Melanie Pfister Gewurztraminer 'Macération' macerated white wine impresses with its vibrant energy, a reflection of the dynamic personality of the talented Mélanie. This young winemaker represents the eighth generation at the helm of the family Domaine, founded back in 1780 in the small Alsatian village of Dahlenheim, not far from Strasbourg. After embracing the principles of organic farming, Mélanie converted the estate to biodynamics in 2021 and is now considered among the most competent and skilled French women in the world of wine, too long considered the exclusive preserve of the male gender.

Melanie Pfister's 'Macération' Gewurztraminer is an expression of the grape variety coming from vines raised in accordance with the dictates of biodynamic agriculture on clay-limestone soils. After manual harvesting, the clusters are mellowed in steel tanks where only indigenous yeasts operate the temperature-controlled alcoholic fermentation, with about 15 days of maceration on the skins. Once the fermentation process is complete, the mass matures for several months between steel and old oak barrels before bottling.

On visual examination Melanie Pfister's Alsatian Gewurztraminer 'Macération' reveals a radiant bright orange coloration. Intense and varied is the bouquet in its aromas of bitter orange jam and candied orange peel, enhanced by hints of sweet spices such as clove. The entry on the palate is dry and round, with a great tannic structure that anticipates the persistent and pleasantly bitter epilogue. An orange wine with great personality that can be paired with particularly rich and spicy oriental cuisine dishes, such as white meats and flavorful curried fish.
