GEWURZTRAMINER ABBAZIA DI NOVACELLA 2023 DESCRIPTION

Novacella Abbey's Gewurztraminer was born from the goal of winemaking classic, tradition and, above all, quality. We live by the dogma of "little but good" at Abbazia di Novacella, a South Tyrolean winery linked to the Augustinian monastic order. The Abbey's own vineyards stretch partly over the surface of the Brixen basin and partly near the warmer Cornaiano and Bolzano. This Gewurztraminer belongs to the so-called base line, or line of classics, and carries with it all the aromatic stamp that characterizes the princely white grape of Alto Adige. From those who have been working and caring for those lands for a very long time, a personal account of this enchanted terroir could not be missed.

Abbazia di Novacella Gewurztraminer is made from that grape variety in purity. It comes from vineyards located at an altitude of between 600 and 700 meters above sea level. They are defined by gravelly, loamy and sandy soils, with rows facing south and southwest. After the harvest, in which the grapes are carefully selected and picked, the clusters are softly pressed and the obtained must is initiated to the alcoholic fermentation phase by means of the activity of indigenous yeasts, inside steel tanks. It continues its course with an aging of 6 months, again in steel containers, before being bottled and put on the market.

Abbazia di Novacella's white Gewurztraminer has a deep straw yellow color. Its bouquet opens to a fruity and floral complexity of rose, lychee, dried fig and grapefruit, with a finish of sweet spice such as vanilla, entirely attributable to the aromatic identity of the grape variety. A well-structured body and an excellent balance between freshness and alcohol provide support for the flavor intensity that punctuates the sip. It retains the fine Alto Adige elegance and the engaging character of the varietal.

When to drink
Wine good to drink now, but that can have a beautiful evolution after resting for a while in your cellar
Glass
Medium open goblet
Perfect for young and medium bodied white wines which don't require excessive oxygenation to open. The opening, slightly tighter than the body of the glass, favors the concentration of aromas towards the nose, enhancing the perception of aromas and limiting the dispersion
Longevity
You can easily cellar it for 2-3 years
