Piantavigna's Ghemme di Torraccia is a red wine produced in one of the most famous and historic appellations in Alto Piemonte. The Ghemme area has always had a vocation for viticulture, thanks to a cool climate with beautiful sunny exposures and particularly fine soils. Ghemme is a historic DOCG from the Novara hills, a wine that Mario Soldati called "excellent and first-rate," a great Piedmontese red that is sure to win you over sip after sip! It is made from the Nebbiolo grape variety, which here expresses itself with a profile of good finesse and elegance, and with a small percentage of Vespolina grapes, an indigenous variety characterized by an intense spiciness. It is a refined wine that already breathes the mountain air and gives floral notes of licorice, spices and small berries.
Ghemme is produced in Alta Val Sesia by one of the area's historic producers. Torraccia del Piantavigna has been present in the hilly pre-Alpine area of Novara since the 1950s. Today it manages about 40 hectares of vineyards in the prized areas of Ghemme and Gattinara, offering quality labels that highlight the peculiarities of the different territories and the particular face that Nebbiolo takes on in this area. In the cool climate, with strong temperature changes and on soils of ancient morainic origin, derived from materials brought downstream by the Monte Rosa glacier and the alluvial terracing of the Sesia River, Nebbiolo expresses itself with less power than in the Langhe area, but with great finesse and freshness. The wines of Ghemme are fragrant, subtle and delicate, ideal for those who love above all expressive elegance.
Ghemme from the famous Novara winery Torraccia del Piantavigna is one of the most interesting declinations of Nebbiolo outside the cradle of the Langhe. It is produced with fermentation in temperature-controlled steel tanks and maceration on the skins lasting 3 to 4 weeks. The wine matures for 36 months in French oak barrels and completes aging with 9 months in bottle before release for sale. In the glass it has a transparent ruby red color with garnet reflections. The bouquet gives scents of dried rose petals, violet nuances, hints of licorice root, aromatic mountain herbs, delicate aromas of small red berries. The palate is medium-bodied, with an elegant tannic texture, delicate and subtle aromas. The finish is long, savory and pleasantly refreshing, closing on spicy and mineral sensations. The refined face of Alto Piemonte.
