GRIGNOLINO DEL MONFERRATO CASALESE 'G' VICARA 2022 DESCRIPTION

Grignolino del Monferrato Casalese 'G' from the Vicara winery is atypically spicy interpretation of Grignolino, a black grape variety indigenous to Basso Piemonte. This grape is particularly linked to the Basso Monferrato area, also called Monferrato Casalese as it coincides with the district of the municipality of Casale Monferrato. As for the origin of the variety's name, there are two hypotheses: one refers to the Piedmontese term 'grignòle', with which the grape pips were indicated, of which Grignolino grapes are rich. The other theory refers instead to 'grignare', another Piedmontese word meaning 'to laugh', as Grignolino wine used to cheer the spirits of those who drank it.

For the production of Grignolino del Monferrato Casalese Vicara 'G', only Grignolino grapes from the Momperlino, Montarucco and Quagliotta vineyards are used, characterised by soils consisting of calcareous marl, located at an altitude of 300 metres above sea level. The bunches of grapes, hand-picked in boxes, are vinified in red through spontaneous alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel vats accompanied by just 4-7 days of maceration on the skins, with subsequent complete malolactic fermentation. Refinement for several months takes place partly in stainless steel and partly in the bottle and precedes final release.

Vicara 'G' Grignolino del Monferrato Casalese has a light ruby red colour tending towards orange. The nose expands on pleasant tones of dog rose and fresh red fruits, enhanced by the typical spicy accents of white pepper that characterise the variety. In the mouth it is fresh and pleasantly tannic, with a dry and mineral finish of excellent persistence.
