The Riviera del Garda Classico Groppello from the Brescia-based winery Saottini is a red wine with a lively and refreshing drinkability produced in the Mediterranean context of the Riviera del Garda. The designation Riviera del Garda encompasses a large area located along the southwestern shore of Lake Garda, in a territory of morainic origin characterized by a Mediterranean climate. In 2017, this DOC, which has Groppello as its main grape variety for red wines, changed its name from Riviera del Garda Bresciano to Riviera del Garda Classico, simultaneously "absorbing" the Garda Classico and Valtènesi denominations, with the latter being transformed into a subzone.
Saottini Groppello Riviera del Garda Classico is a blend of Groppello and Marzemino grapes grown on morainic soils. After harvesting, a traditional red vinification process begins, involving the start of alcoholic fermentation through the inoculation of selected yeasts with varying contact durations between the must and the skins. Once the fermentation process is complete, the mass matures for several months in cement barrels until final bottling.
The Riviera del Garda Classico Groppello from Saottini has a medium-intensity ruby red color. On the nose, sensations of berries and flowers are perceived, accompanied by light spicy hints. The palate is dry and fresh, with non-intrusive tannins that blend with a slight sapidity in a closure of good and warm persistence. Thanks to its dynamic, sleek, and refreshing taste, this red wine pairs excellently with a wide range of dishes, such as cheese and cold cut platters, earthy first courses, legume soups, or dishes based on white meats.
