Abbazia di Novacella Kerner 'Praepositus' represents a South Tyrolean label with a fresh and pleasantly aromatic soul, made in the Isarco Valley with grapes from vineyards in the Novacella and Rasa areas. The 'Praeopositus' line represents the flagship range of the historic Novacella Abbey winery, an estate run since the 12th century by Augustinian canons. This selection encompasses wines, mostly whites, made from the best grapes of varieties widespread in Alto Adige, including Kerner, a semi-aromatic genetic hybrid created in Germany by crossing Rhine Riesling and Schiava Grossa. The Latin term "praepositus" means "provost," a word identifying a particular monastic title.

Abbazia di Novacella's Kerner 'Praepositus' is a 100% Kerner from 15-20 year-old vines rooted on soils consisting of permeable moraine deposits, rich in micascist, paragneiss and quartzite. Following harvest, the clusters undergo soft pressing, followed by the alcoholic fermentation of the must in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The ensuing maturation phase also takes place in stainless steel, a wine container in which the mass rests for 10 months before final bottling.

The colour of 'Praepositus' Kerner Abbazia di Novacella is pale straw yellow with brilliant greenish flashes. The aromatic array evokes citrusy hints of lemon and cedar, supported by delicate vegetal and floral hints and fruity notes of green apple. The sharp fresh-savoury streak on the palate, with imposing freshness and an elegant bitter note on the finish. This is a white wine of superb dynamism, capable of evolving harmoniously for several years in the cellar and approachable with various appetizers, both seafood and land.
