The Lago di Caldaro Classico Muri - Gries is a Schiava-based red wine produced in Alto Adige. Fresh, juicy and drinkable, the nose expresses notes of berries, floral hints and slight hints of hazelnut. Perfect with an aperitif of cold cuts and cheeses from Trentino!
The Südtirol Lago di Caldaro Scelto Classico from the Muri - Gries winery is a pure Schiava wine with a fresh and crunchy character, produced from vineyards in the Appiano and Caldaro area. The designation Lago di Caldaro, "Kalterersee" in German, was the first DOC of Trentino-Alto Adige, established in 1970 and considered one of the best in the region for red wines, mainly elaborated with Schiava grapes. The name obviously derives from Lake Caldaro, the warmest alpine lake, around which the vineyards of the denomination extend.
Muri - Gries Lago di Caldaro Scelto Classico is made with only Schiava grapes grown in the Caldaro and Appiano area. Altitudes range from 300 to 420 meters above sea level, and the vines benefit from sandy soils of morainic origin and excellent south and southeast exposure. In the cellar, the grapes are destemmed in stainless steel tanks for an 8-day alcoholic fermentation in contact with the skins, at a controlled temperature of 26°C. The subsequent aging phase, which lasts a few months, also takes place in steel, and after a short rest in the bottle, the wine is finally ready for release to the market.
The Lago di Caldaro Scelto Classico Muri - Gries Südtirol has a bright ruby red color. Crisp fruity sensations of cherry and fragrant floral hints of rose and violet describe the olfactory range along with light notes of dried fruit. On the palate, it reveals juicy freshness and a soft tannic texture, as well as a slight and pleasant hint of bitter almond that accompanies the smooth finish. The ideal pairing for this Schiava wine is platters of traditional South Tyrolean cold cuts and cheeses or speck dumplings.
