LAGREIN 'FRAUENHUGEL' RISERVA KURTATSCH 2022 DESCRIPTION

The Lagrein 'Frauenhugel' Riserva from Kurtatsch represents an expression of Lagrein with a deep fruity and spicy character. Genetically similar to the famous Syrah, Lagrein is the oldest indigenous grape variety in South Tyrol, first mentioned in a document dated 1318. This black berry variety has always been successful among winegrowers thanks to its ability to combine abundant production with high quality, the latter being particularly enhanced by ageing in wood.

The Lagrein Riserva Kurtatsch 'Frauenhugel' is made solely from Lagrein grapes from warm, sunny vineyards in the south of South Tyrol. The vines then benefit from the altitude of 300-350 metres above sea level, south-eastern exposure and the steep slopes that characterise the hillsides. In addition, the soils are distinguished by their red colour and have a high concentration of sand, silt and clay minerals. After the harvest, alcoholic fermentation takes place in special rotovinificators with maceration on the skins at a controlled temperature. The mass is then placed to age in barriques and large wooden barrels, containers in which the wine stays for 12 months until final bottling.

The Lagrein Riserva 'Frauenhugel' from the Kurtatsch cooperative presents itself in the glass with an impenetrable ruby red colour. On the nose, fruity sensations of black cherries, plums, elderberries and berries alternate with hints of liquorice, toasted nuances and vivid aromas of cocoa and sweet spices. The taste is intense, full and juicy, very dark but relaxed, characterised by a dense tannic texture and a persistent balsamic finish.
