The Lugana 'Pietro Junior' by Pietro Zardini with its intense bouquet, pervaded by notes of peach and citrus fruits, captures the essence of the clayey cretaceous hills of the area between Peschiera and Desenzano. This wine is matured in steel for a short period, so it is a young and fresh wine, to be consumed immediately as an aperitif, or with a fish starter. It will instantly transport you to the shores of the picturesque Lake Garda!
Lugana 'Pietro Junior' represents the Veneto-based Pietro Zardini's interpretation of this appellation reserved for white wines made from Trebbiano di Lugana grapes, which benefit from their proximity to Lake Garda. The Pietro Zardini winery is located in the prestigious Valpolicella Classica area, where the founder of the family, Leonardo Zardini, started wine production as early as the first decades of the 19th century. Today the activity is carried on by Pietro Zardini, the fifth generation, a passionate and tenacious producer who intends to enhance the long family tradition.
Pietro Zardini's 'Pietro Junior' Lugana originates from only Trebbiano di Lugana grapes grown sustainably between the municipalities of Peschiera del Garda and Desenzano del Garda, in the southern part of the lake. Here the soil is hilly, with a clayey-clay matrix, while the climate is typically mild thanks to the influence of Lake Garda. Following the harvest, carried out by hand with scrupulous grape selection, the grapes are vinified through a brief pre-fermentation skin maceration, followed by soft pressing and then the alcoholic fermentation of the must in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The final marketing takes place not before several months of refinement between steel and bottle.
Lugana Pietro Zardini 'Pietro Junior' has a straw yellow colour with greenish highlights. The nose offers rich hints of peach, citrus and white flowers, surrounded by a subtle mineral vein. The palate displays good body and remarkable freshness, with a savoury, balanced finish that invites you to return to the glass. Remaining within the territory, this white wine pairs exceptionally well with various lake fish, such as tench or Garda sardines.
