Cantine Viola's Magliocco 'Rinni' is a red wine with character, produced in the heart of Orsomarso mountains. The vinification process, which includes cold pre-fermentation maceration and controlled fermentation, enhances the fragrance and freshness of the grape. On the nose, it offers an intriguing bouquet of spices such as cloves and black pepper, enriched by fruity notes of plum and cherry. The palate is pleasantly savoury with well-integrated tannins, a full reflection of the Calabrian terroir
Cantine Viola's Magliocco 'Rinni' is a red wine from Calabria that stands out for its savoury and rather drinkable taste, produced in the Saracena area from organically certified grapes. Magliocco, also known as Magliocco Dolce, not to be confused with Magliocco Canino, is a rare black grape variety indigenous to the Calabrian peninsula, which, after a long period of oblivion, has recently been rediscovered and enhanced. This ancient variety probably comes from Greece, as the origin of the name Magliocco itself would testify, which in Greek means 'tender knot', a probable reference to the typical shape of the bunch, with its closed knot-like appearance.
Cantine Viola Magliocco's 'Rinni' is produced using only grapes of the black berry variety of the same name grown in the Saracena area, in the Rinni district, at an altitude of 350 metres above sea level. Agronomic management follows the rules of certified organic farming and, once ripe, the bunches are harvested by hand. In the cellar, a 3-day cold pre-fermentation maceration is carried out first, aimed at enhancing the aromatic component, followed by 8 days of alcoholic fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Also in stainless steel, the wine matures for about 10 months until bottling and a further resting period of at least 6 months in glass.
The Magliocco 'Rinni' from the Calabrian Cantine Viola has a bright ruby red colour. Intense fruity hints of cherry and plum present the olfactory range, followed by notes of carnation flowers and hints of black pepper that emerge on the finish. The taste is dry, clean and very savoury, with a fine tannic texture that contributes to the rather drinkable character of this Magliocco.
