MALPELO MANCIACIUMI 2023 DESCRIPTION

Manciaciumi's 'Malpelo' is a balanced and fascinating expression that reflects artisan winemaker Dario Sciuto's idea of wine. The name 'Malpelo' recalls the famous 19th century novella written by the Catanese author Giovanni Verga, in which he tells of a young Sicilian boy working as a miner, despised because of the red colour of his hair. This label is therefore intended as a tribute to the land where Dario comes from, where the art of winemaking is inextricably part of the local culture.

Manciaciumi 'Malpelo' originates from a blend of different black berry varieties from an old vineyard over 85 years old. The vines, cultivated according to the dictates of organic farming, are planted on volcanic soil at an incredible altitude of 1,000 metres above sea level. Harvesting is carried out strictly by hand and the grapes are then mellowed in stainless steel tanks for spontaneous alcoholic fermentation, accompanied by a short 3-6 day maceration on the skins. The entire production cycle then excludes the use of additives as well as the use of invasive manipulations.

Manciaciumi's 'Malpelo' is bright ruby red in colour. The compelling olfactory texture is narrated by aromas of cherry, blackberry, strawberry and violet, enriched by spicy hints and volcanic mineral nuances. Fresh and fine is the entry to the palate, defined by a subtle tannic texture that anticipates the fine savoury-mineral finish in a very balanced progression. Thanks to its smoky mineral character, this red wine is the ideal accompaniment to various meats cooked over charcoal, such as lamb or pork ribs or beef steaks.

When to open
To enjoy it at its best, we recommend you to let the wine 'breathe' at least 15-30 minutes before serving
Glass
Medium open goblet
Perfect for young and medium bodied red wines which don't require excessive oxygenation to open. The opening, slightly tighter than the body of the glass, favors the concentration of aromas towards the nose, enhancing the perception of aromas and limiting the dispersion
Longevity
You can let it rest in the cellar quietly for 3-4 years
