"Vino della Volta" is a very aromatic and fragrant sweet wine that is made from Malvasia di Candia grapes dried for 15 days on sheets in the sun. Textural and full-bodied, concentrated and of long persistence, supported by a dynamic freshness, it gives aromas of apricot, peach, candied and caramelized fruit
The Malvasia Passito 'Vino del Volta', from the Piacenza winery La Stoppa, is a label of memory, which tells the story of the winery. It is a single vineyard, named after the sharecropper who cultivated this plot for a long time, at a time when work in the countryside was tiring and poorly remunerated in economic terms. It is made from aromatic Malvasia di Candia, one of the most widespread white grape varieties in this area. Its natural persuasive softness is enhanced by drying, which concentrates its aromas, giving sweet sensations reminiscent of candied fruit and dried apricots. A wine full of charm, still well representing the tradition of the area.
The 'Vino del Volta' Malvasia Passito is produced by the La Stoppa estate, which manages 58 hectares, about 30 of which are given over to viticulture and the rest occupied by woodland, which favours a rich environmental biodiversity. The company was founded in the early 1970s and is now managed by Elena Pantaleoni following organic farming principles, using only sulphur and copper in the vineyard. Work in the vineyard is all done by hand, right up to the harvest. To respect the customs of the territory, the varieties historically present in this area have been planted: Malvasia di Candia aromatica, Ortrugo, Trebbiano, Barbera and Bonarda. The wine comes from vines that are some 20 years old and are grown on soils composed of silt and clay. At the end of the harvest, the healthiest bunches are dried naturally and then pressed with a vertical press. The dense must ferments spontaneously with indigenous yeasts in used French oak barriques. The wine matures in wood and completes its ageing in the bottle.
La Stoppa's Passito Malvasia 'Vino del Volta' is an excellent dessert wine, ideal to be enjoyed with small dry pastries or with very tasty or slightly spicy mature cheeses. It seduces the eye with a beautiful amber colour, warm and deep, crossed by luminous golden reflections. Intense and complex, it presents an olfactory palette characterised by aromas of candied orange peel, dried apricot, tropical fruit, soft notes of caramel and citrus honey, delicately spiced sensations and nuances of almond and dried fruit. Suave and enveloping, it expresses an ample and very richness of flavour that stretches harmoniously on the palate towards a very persistent and pleasantly fresh finish.
