Podversic's Malvasia Istriana is a smooth and elegant white wine, characterized by a rich aromatic and olfactory profile. It is vinified on the skins and matures for 36 months in large barrels, then expresses itself with great intensity and fullness of fruit
Damijan Podversic's Malvasia is without a shadow of a doubt one of the deepest and most exciting Italian white wines ever, the result of the interpretation of a winemaker of immense talent. We cannot hide emotion and transport when we talk about the wines of Damijan Podversic, absolute matador of the Slovenian Collio, capable like few others of interpreting such a vocated land in such a clear and definitive way. Pupil of an authentic legend such as Josko Gravner and convinced supporter of maceration on the skins for white wines, one cannot help but recognize to Damijan an almost unique and recognizable stylistic accomplishment, devoted to the full ripeness of the grapes, which allows to obtain rich and persuasive wines, but at the same time not devoid of acidity and saline contribution. ''Universal'' wines that unite novice drinkers and enthusiasts alike, as only the greatest bottles know how to do.
Malvasia Podversic is made from pure grapes of the vine of the same name, from the vineyards of Gradisciutta and Monte Calvario, which rest on soils characterized by Ponka, or the typical sandstone marl that characterizes local soils. In the vineyard we do not resort to the use of any substance other than copper and a little sulfur, paying as already mentioned great attention to the perfect degree of ripeness of the grapes. In the winery, spontaneous alcoholic fermentations and maceration on the skins for 60-90 days in oak vats are continued. The wine then ages for 3 years in large oak barrels, and for 12 months in bottles before release.
The Malvasia wine presents itself in the glass with an intense golden robe edged with orange highlights. Deep and striking nose, rich in descriptors including ripe apricot, chamomile, orange peel and wild herbs. Classic olfactory profile to get lost in, although the taste is no less impressive in terms of character and depth. Richness, volume and smoothness certainly do not leave one indifferent, but they are readily balanced by just the right amount of freshness and salt, making the liquid symphonic. A true diamond, not rough but perfectly polished.
