'MEG' Sigurd 2023

Sigurd's 'MEG' is a white wine dedicated to Maria Elizabeth, the mother of winery founder Dan Graham. The winery specialises in blends and this wine is no exception: Viognier, Vermentino, Semillon and Muscat of Alexandria are the protagonists of this bottle. The Viognier is harvested at the end of February, a very early harvest period in the southern hemisphere, and gently pressed to preserve freshness and the typical aromas of the variety. A bouquet of lychee and apricot blossom typical of the aromatic variety emerges on the nose, with spicy notes inviting one to sip. Light, savoury and lively, it is perfect to drink chilled with appetisers or with delicate Asian cuisine

'MEG' SIGURD 2023 DESCRIPTION

The 'MEG' white wine from the Australian winery Sigurd is a drinkable and fragrant interpretation of a distinctive blend of Viognier, Vermentino, Semillon and Muscat of Alexandria, varieties from different vineyards in the Barossa Valley. In fact, in addition to growing his own vines sustainably, Daniel Graham, winemaker and owner of the Sigurd winery, buys grapes from trusted winegrowers in the Barossa and other South Australian wine areas. Regarding the name of the bottle, the acronym 'MEG' represents a tribute from Dan to his mother Maria Elizabeth Graham, who is also depicted on the label.

Sigurd 'MEG' is made from a blend of Viognier, Vermentino, Semillon and Muscat of Alexandria grapes grown in different parts of the Barossa Valley using sustainable practices. In the winery, the Viognier is gently pressed directly, with the must then sent to French oak barrels for alcoholic fermentation. Instead, the Vermentino and a small quantity of Muscat of Alexandria are vinified in red with pellicular maceration. The blend is completed by Semillon from an organically managed vineyard while the ageing phase takes place in a combination of steel and wood.

On visual examination the 'MEG' reveals an intense straw yellow colour with golden highlights. Vivid sensations of tropical fruits such as lychee and summer fruits reminiscent of peach characterise the olfactory texture together with hints of apricot blossom and subtle hints of white pepper. On the palate, it is very fresh and crisp, pleasantly savoury and graceful, with a fragrant aromatic finish that insists on the fine fruity and floral notes of the nose.

When to drink
Wine good to drink now, but that can have a beautiful evolution after resting for a while in your cellar
Glass
Medium open goblet
Perfect for young and medium bodied white wines which don't require excessive oxygenation to open. The opening, slightly tighter than the body of the glass, favors the concentration of aromas towards the nose, enhancing the perception of aromas and limiting the dispersion
Longevity
You can let it rest in the cellar quietly for 3-4 years
