MERLOT 'AT' AQUILA DEL TORRE 2021 DESCRIPTION

Merlot "AT" from the Aquila del Torre winery in Friuli is a fruity, harmonious and intense red. The decision to vinify the wine only in steel, allows to preserve the fragrant varietal typicality of the famous Bordeaux grape variety, combined with the fresh mineral notes, characteristic of the "ponca" soils of the Colli Orientali. A combination that gives a version of Merlot with an elegant, forthright, authentic and immediate profile.

The red Merlot "AT" was born in the rolling hills of the Colli Orientali, on Aquila del Torre's magnificent Povoletto estate. The Friuli-based winery owns 84 hectares, of which only about 20 are planted with vines and the rest covered by a forest of still wild nature, which helps to maintain a valuable biodiversity in the ecosystem. The vineyards are managed under biodynamic agriculture, on soils composed of marl and sandstone of Eocene origin, the famous Friulian "ponca." The Merlot vines have an average age of about 15 years and are trained on hillside terraces facing southeast, southwest, at an altitude between 175 and 300 meters above sea level, with Guyot training systems and a density of 5000 vines per hectare. The grapes are harvested by hand in boxes, and fermentation takes place with native yeasts in steel tanks with fermentation on the skins. The wine is aged in steel for about a year before bottling.

Aquila del Torre's Merlot is a young, fragrant and fruity, very pleasant and immediately drinkable version of the famous Bordeaux grape variety. In the glass, it is deep ruby red in color, with youthful purplish highlights. The nose expresses aromas of berries, cherry, wild herbs, humus, underbrush and spices. The sip is harmonious and intense, with rich, soft fruit that persuasively accompanies towards a fresh, mineral finish.
