Montepulciano d'Abruzzo 'Ulisse' Tenuta Ulisse 2022

The Montepulciano d'Abruzzo 'Ulisse' from the family-run Tenuta Ulisse is a red wine that echoes the characteristic fruity intensity of Montepulciano, further enhanced by the use of steel during vinification and ageing. The geographical origin of Montepulciano has long been the subject of debate, starting with the name that recalls the Tuscan town of the same name, with which, however, this grape has nothing to do. In reality, this grape variety is indigenous to the Adriatic side of the central Apennines, where it has been cultivated for centuries. The brothers Luigi and Antonio Ulisse, owners of the winery, interpret this and other varieties, traditional and otherwise, through an innovative and modern style, using state-of-the-art technology.

Tenuta Ulisse Montepulciano d'Abruzzo 'Ulisse' is a 100% Montepulciano whose grapes are vinified red through crushing and destemming and subsequent alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks, with a period of maceration on the skins varying between 15 and 20 days depending on the characteristics of the vintage. Once the fermentation process is complete, the wine matures in stainless steel for a few months and is finally marketed after a further adequate resting period in the bottle.

To the eye, Tenuta Ulisse's Montepulciano d'Abruzzo 'Ulisse' shows an intense ruby red colour with violet hues. On the nose there are clear fruity aromas of blackberry and black cherry, enriched by floral and balsamic hints. The progression on the palate is full and round, with good body and structure, and velvety tannins accompanying the persistent and pleasant fruity notes on the finish. This red wine expresses the more lively and youthful spirit of Montepulciano, marrying exceptionally well with platters of cheeses and cured meats or with roast and grilled meats.
