MONTEPULCIANO D'ABRUZZO RISERVA 'VILLA GEMMA' MASCIARELLI 2018 DESCRIPTION

Masciarelli's Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Riserva "Villa Gemma" is one of the finest versions of this historic grape variety from central Italy. The careful selection of grapes and a long aging in noble woods give a red wine of great balance, with a soft and persuasive profile and complex and deep aromas. It is a label with a typically gastronomic vocation to be tasted in pairing with main courses of roasted red meats, braised meats, stews or game.

"Villa Gemma" Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Riserva, is made by one of the most important names on the Abruzzo wine scene. The Masciarelli winery represents the history and tradition of the region, and through its activities has contributed to raising the level of production, enhancing the native grape varieties of the area. Today the estate spreads over more than 300 hectares and offers a range of labels of absolute excellence, among which the Montepulciano and Trebbiano d'Abruzzo versions stand out in particular. Montepulciano grapes are harvested in the San Martino and Santa Marrucina vineyards, which are cultivated at an 'altitude of 400 meters above sea level, facing east and on soils of a calcareous nature. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled steel vats with maceration on the skins. The wine matures for a period of 36 months, 24 of which are in French oak barrels, and completes aging with another 2 to 3 years in bottle.

Masciarelli's red Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Riserva "Villa Gemma" is an iconic wine from the winery. It is a tribute to the great Abruzzo grape variety and its rich and intense appeal. It is a version made with the intention of offering enthusiasts a high-level bottle, capable of competing with the great reds of the peninsula. In the glass it is dark ruby red, almost impenetrable. On the nose it offers broad, rich and intense aromas, with scents of ripe red fruit, blackberry, plum, berry jam, hints of humus and underbrush, aromas of herbs, licorice root, bitter cocoa and dark chocolate. Powerful and structured, it has an important tannic texture, well integrated with a dense and rich fruit, enhanced by elegant evolutionary notes. The finish is harmonious and very persistent.
